Thomas Andrew Daniel "Tad" Ryland was a minor character in Emmerdale Farm in 1976. He lived at w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Highfell Farm in Beckindale and when first seen his wife Bella was dying. Her carer was her cousin w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Nan Wheeler. His catchphrase was "Dont scold" when he thought someone was berating him, esp Nan. Tad was played by w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Victor Winding.

Backstory[]
Tad Ryland was born in about 1925 in Beckindale. He married aged 19, to Bella in about 1945 and they lived at Highfell Farm. They had a daughter Nicky Ryland who went to school with Joe Sugden. Nicky later emigrated to w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Canada. In early 1975 Tad's wife Bella Ryland started feeling ill and was bedridden by the end of the year. She had terminal cancer.

Tad's wife Bella Ryland had been ill for a while and was confined to her bed at the family farm, Highfell Farm, Beckindale, a neighbouring farm to Emmerdale Farm. She had cancer and her cousin Nan Wheeler nursed her. There was specualtion that Tad would marry Nan when Bella died but this was just rumour and Tad was devastated when his wife finally died. Nan left and Tad could live in peace.
