James Bonfils in 1975.

James Bonfils was a regular character in Emmerdale Farm from w:c:emmerdale:Episode 209 (11th November 1974) to w:c:emmerdale:Episode 252 (22nd April 1975), appearing in 33 episodes in total. He was the school teacher and stayed at w:c:emmerdale:Emmerdale Farm with the Sugdens. He was played by w:c:emmerdale:Tom Browne.

Backstory[]

James Bonfils was born in about 1945. He trained as a school teacher and in 1974 was posted to w:c:emmerdale:Beckindale in the Yorkshire Dales.

1974-1975[]

In November 1974 James Bonfils came to Beckindale, to take over as the village school teacher. James stayed at Emmerdale Farm. As James' surname sounded French, people picked up on his French heritage. In late 1974, James was involved in a rumour that he spent the night with w:c:emmerdale:Kathy Gimbel on Seedcut Night. Kathy was still a married woman to w:c:emmerdale:Terry Davies but had reverted to her maiden name. Kathy's tyrannical father w:c:emmerdale:Jim Gimbel wanted to see James Bonfils but w:c:emmerdale:Joe Sugden said he was with her that night.

In early March 1975, Sam Pearson got fed up with James lodging at Emmerdale Farm so set up a new house for him.
