Hawthorn Cottage was a farmhouse in Beckindale. In 1973 it was sold by owner Harry Jameson to Matt and Peggy Skilbeck. It featured in the show from 1973 to 1976 then from 1993 to 1996 when the Sugden's lived there. The real life location was Bank Side Farm in Arthington, near The Harewood Set in Harewood, Yorkshire.

In 1993, after Emmerdale Farm was suffering from subsidence, the Sugden family moved into Hawthorn Cottage, 17 years after Joe lived there.
