Born on 30th December 1936 in London.
He attended Holloway County Grammar School.
Before becoming an actor, Frederick worked as a farmer and then served in the Royal Air Force. He then went to RADA.
Television appearances included: R3 (1965); Talking to a Stranger (1966); Theatre 625 (1966); The Three Princes (1968); an adaptation of Macbeth (1970); Dixon of Dock Green (1971); Justice (1972); Theatre-Minute Theatre (1972).
Frederick made a film appearance in The Dance With Death (1969).
Frederick was cast as Matt Skilbeck, husband of Peggy and son-in-law to Annie, making his appearance from the first ever episode of Emmerdale Farm transmitted on 16th October 1972. This is a role that would last for 17 years until his departure on 7th December 1989 (episode 1410). In mid 1988, Frederick gave notice that he wanted to leave the show as he wanted to return to the theatre.
