erdale Village. It was named in 1994 after w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Archie Brooks, a villager who was killed when a plane crashed into the village in December 1993. Archie, having just had a row with Seth and Turner in the pub, was walking on the moor with his friend Nick following him. Archie was unaware that he was walking into the path of disaster, as he was then engulfed in flames and vapourised by fuel from the burning airliner.

Archie Brooks is vapourised by aviation fuel.

After a row with w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Alan Turner in w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:The Woolpack on the night of the plane crash, Archie Brooks walked out and w:c:emmerdale:w:c:emmerdale:Nick Bates followed him. He tried to talk him round and to return to the pub. Nick followed Archie onto a hill just outside the village. Nick was then blinded by aviation fuel and then a fireball engulfed the moor, supposedly incinerating Archie. A blinded Nick walked round the fire damaged moors shouting for Archie, and getting no response. Archie's body was never found which strongly suggests he was vapourised. Nick suffered temporary injuries and PTSD but was lucky to be alive.

The hill was named "Archie's Hill" in early 1994.

In April 1996, when he was on the run after killing a poacher, Nick hid at Archie's Hill then decided to turn himself in.
