SynopsisEditJack Sugden is hiding out in the millhouse trying to write his second novel. He still cannot persuade Trash to wash. Sam Pearson arrives at The Woolpack with his new puppy dog and he mentions that he has seen Jack with a woman in the village. Annie Sugden & Henry Wilks are surprised as they have both been trying to find him. There is a strained atmosphere at the Verneys "you are cruel & stone cold" Laura Verney tells her husband George and she tells him that she wants a divorce & admits to being unfaithful. Beryl Crossthwaite arrives at the farm where she is worried - Sharon has not been home all night.
The vicar, Rev Edward Ruskin calls in at the Woolpack for a drink. He asks Amos if he is willing to give someone a job as a barmaid (a lady who has just come out of prison) Joe finds out that Sharon withdrew a large amount of money (£50) from her savings the day she disappeared. Laura Verney tells George "we're finished".
